ABOUT ME

Mandy Mandelstein is a director, cinematographer, interactive designer and artist living and working in Austin, TX (after spending 12 years learning and working in NYC).

These days I’m working as a freelance Director, CD/ACD, or Experience Designer. And occasionally as an adjunct professor at NYU and SVA.

I originally hail from Austin,TX where I was raised on a healthy dose of punk rock and Andy Warhol. I received a BFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in Film, TV, and New Media with a concentration on Directing and Cinematography and a minor in Entertainment Business.

In 2015 I founded Luxloop, a creative technology studio and consultancy to explore how new technology can allow film content to be pulled off the screen and into the physical world around us. We won the first 3M Art + Technology Award for our project Overheard. In 2017, I was a Museum Technology Fellow at New Inc with support from the Knight Foundation, where I worked on a modular app for locating content and experiences within buildings.

When I’m not busy directing or designing, you can find me working towards fulfilling my dream of covering cities in responsive art, working on a documentary project about the physicality of the internet, or hanging with my mini Aussie named Alice.
